Stepping out of your comfort zone to change your life can be one of the most challenging things you’ll ever do! And yes, fearful. But, do you want to let fear hold you back from achieving your health and fitness goals? We’ve taken the top 5 biggest fears of attending weight loss camp and are sharing how YOU can overcome them, moving you one step closer to optimal health!

1. Fear of the Unknown

There’s something to be said about stepping into the unknown. It takes a lot of strength, mentally and physically, and courage to open yourself up to new ideas and a new way of living, essentially. The unknown is something to be excited about! You’re getting the opportunity to learn and grow into the best version of yourself. So instead of thinking of all the things that could go wrong, focus on all the things that WILL go right!

2. Judgement

A lot of times, people who are thinking of going to weight loss camp have this fear of being judged. Whether it’s from their family, fellow campers, friends etc. there’s this underlying fear that what they’re doing is something to be ashamed of. In actuality, this couldn’t be further from the truth! As stated previously, it takes a very strong individual to make this change and it’s something to be proud of. Taking control of your life is an empowering thing!

3. What if I Fail?

Failure is another big one. What if I don’t lose any weight? How will I feel if I don’t see any results? Going into weight loss camp, the best thing you can do for yourself is lose all expectations. Having too high expectations is the prefect way to set yourself up for failure. Focus on how you feel and notice the little changes because all good things take time. It’s not a “quick fix” and it won’t happen over night but, what will happen, is you’ll leave with a new set of skills that will guide you along the way and help you to achieve your goals.

4. I won’t be able to Keep Up

Another common fear of attending weight loss camp is the notion that everyone who goes to these “fitness camps” is already fit. How will I keep up if I’m so out of shape? The answer is simple: You will. There are always modifications to workouts that make them either more or less challenging. It might be challenging at first and you may feel discouraged but all you have to do is stick with it. It goes back to that phrase we all love, Practice Makes Perfect. Just like with anything else, it takes time and your body will adjust.

5. Fear of Pain

Among some of the most common fears is this fear of physical pain. Every body is different but if you haven’t exercised in some time, there will be some sore muscles. It’s a good pain! You’re awakening your body and activating it in a way that hasn’t been done in a long time so there will be an adjustment period. The best solution for this, is to talk to your trainer. Let them know how you’re feeling and they will accommodate your needs, always!

PFC alums make their big screen debut on the craziest new reality weight loss show to hit A&E, Fit to Fat to Fit! Tune in January 19th at 10pm to watch as trainer JJ Peterson gains 60 lbs. before losing it all alongside his client, Ray Stewart, who dropped a whopping 147 lbs.!

JJ Peterson has been a trainer for 13 years and has always enjoyed helping others to achieve their fitness goals. Enter Ray, a guy who has constantly battled with his weight and needs a trainer who will, not only push him but, who will understand his struggle with food addiction. For this A&E series, JJ gained 60 lbs. to literally, step into Ray’s shoes to better understand the day-to-day challenges that Ray has faced his entire life. Together, they embark on a whirlwind of an emotional journey to lose the weight side-by-side and re-gain their health and fitness as a team!

To kick off their journey, JJ and Ray spent a week at PFC Fitness Camp where they tackled their first fitness hurdles and pushed each other to the limit. PFC is so proud to have been an integral part of JJ and Ray’s inspiring journey and we can’t wait to watch their journey unfold on the premier of Fit to Fat to Fit, Tuesday, January 19th at 10/9 Central on A&E!

I don’t know about you but I am definitely one of those people who has to push themselves to workout. It’s ironic too because at PFC I’m surrounded by some of the best nutritionists and trainers all day long, but sometimes I just fall into a funk and need a little bit of a push.

There are several things I do that ALWAYS do the trick and motivate me to get in my workout groove! If you’re anything like me, try these tricks the next time you’re planning to hit the gym:

1. Lay out your clothes the night before

If I plan my outfit out the night before, it saves me time in the morning where I could further procrastinate my workout. The fact that I have clothes laid out already, allows me to just throw them on and get out the door!

2. Your mind always gives up before your body does, Create a Mantra!

Many people think it takes physical strength to crush a workout but, in all honesty, it takes more mental strength. Yep that’s right! I always make an effort to think positively and tell myself a mantra during my workout that motivates me from beginning to end. Literally, tell yourself that you can do this! Just one more push-up or 10 more minutes and then you’re done!

3. Pick an Accountability buddy

One thing that always helps me is to have an accountability buddy! Call your friend up and ask them to go to a class with you or take your mom on an afternoon hike. It’s so much more motivating when you have someone to lean on for support and someone who is there to push you to keep going.

4. Book classes ahead of time

If you go to a yoga studio or a fitness studio like OrangeTheory or Barre, always book your classes ahead of time! This is something I do because it gives me a set time that I have to carve out for fitness. Setting a workout schedule is so helpful for me and I encourage everyone to do it.

5. Choose a playlist that rocks 

This is my favorite trick that I use to crush ANY workout! It always comes down to the music you play. I make sure to pick a playlist that gets my energy up and makes me want to MOVE. I have a list of some of my favorite upbeat songs that I play for every workout and, I have to say, there’s nothing more motivating than a good workout playlist!

With all of the holiday parties and festive treats that this time of year has to offer, you may be wondering how you’re going to stay healthy and fit? It’s hard to stay on track and it’s even harder to say no to a plate of sugar cookies and hot chocolate.  Enter JJ and Erika Peterson! Creators of Clean Simple Eats and authors of Clean Simple Eats – 40 Day Meal Planner and Exercise Guide, this dynamic duo is sharing their Holiday HIIT Winter Workout, which is SURE to get you through the holidays in tip top shape!

Why HIIT?

HIIT training is effective at torching that unwanted fat. By incorporating short bursts of high intensity intervals followed by shorter periods of rest, you’ll kick in the phenomenon known as EPOC. EPOC is short for Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption or “The After Burn Effect.” This enemy to unwanted fat will leave you burning calories long after you’ve completed the workout! Let’s get HIITin!

The Workout

Set your timer for 30 seconds of work, 15 seconds of rest, 8 cycles. Perform each of the following rounds 2 times through. For example… Round 1: Complete 30 seconds of T Push-Ups followed by 15 seconds of rest. Now, move to 30 seconds of Superman followed by 15 seconds of rest. Complete the last two movements and start immediately back at T Push-Ups for 1 more cycle! Rest 90-120 seconds between rounds. Total time: 27:30

Warm-up:

5 minutes of brisk walking, jogging in place, jumping rope etc.

Round 1:

T push-ups

Superman

Pulse Squats

V-ups

Round 2:

Russian Twists

PLYO push-ups

Walking lunges

Floor wipers

Round 3:

Plank to push-up

Jump squats

Scissor kicks

Burpees
